In 2008, Veerle Baetens won awards for her performance of “Sara” (the Flemish version of the TV show Ugly Betty). She gained international notoriety in 2013 thanks to her performance in The Broken Circle Breakdown (Alabama Monroe) by Felix Van Groeningen, for which she won several awards including Best Actress at The European Film Awards. In 2015, she was one of the pivotal roles in The Ardennes by Robin Pront. Since then, she starred in several French features and series in leading roles such as: Un début Prometteur by Emma Luchini; Beyond the Walls (Au-delà des Murs) by Hervé Hadmar; A bluebird in my heart (Tu ne Tueras Point) opposite Roland Moller; Des Nouvelles de la Planète Mars by Dominik Moll; Au Nom de la Terre by Edouard Bergeon; A l’ombre des filles by Etienne Comar. In 2017, she co-wrote the Belgian series Tabula Rasa. She also played the leading role in Duelles by Olivier Masset-Depasse and received the best actress Magritte for this part. In 2022, she started a new part of her career directing her first movie Het Smelt based on the book of Lize Spit. She will also soon be starring in Le plus vivant possible by Delphine Girard.

Veerle Baetens came to les Arcs in 2022 for the screening of Alamaba Monroe.
