Oliver Laxe, second Guest of Honor of the 18th edition

The festival is delighted to welcome Oliver Laxe as its Guest of Honor!
Born in Paris in 1982, Oliver Laxe is the son of Galician emigrants. When he was six years old, his family returned to Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. In his twenties, he moved to Morocco, where he self-produced Todos vós sodes capitáns, a film that earned the FIPRESCI Prize at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2010, and Mimosas, which received the Grand Prize of Critics’ Week in Cannes in 2016.
He shot O que arde in Os Ancares, the mountains of his ancestors, a film that won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Fifteen years after his Cannes debut, Oliver entered the festival's Official Competition for the first time with Sirāt, winning the Jury Prize. The film was Spain's submission for the 98th Academy Awards and received two Oscar nominations.
Laxe’s work has been recognized at the world’s leading festivals and embraced by critics and audiences worldwide. He has established himself as a major auteur of contemporary cinema, thanks to one of the most distinctive and personal visions in contemporary filmmaking
