In front of the screen of La Scène where we screened a programme of lms especially chosen for the 10th year of the Festival, we were honoured to welcome the two musicians from Grandbrothers who played live the soundtracks they had imagined.

At the borders between classical and electronic music, Grandbrothers enchants with their melodies with repetitive loops. From Steve Reich, one of the pioneers of minimalism, to the new delicate worlds discovered by Nils Frahm, the German duet plays with ease, with every partition keeping a great delicacy and sensitivity.

Tuesday December 18 - 6PM - La Scène, Bourg Saint Maurice

The film programme
L’Ascension du Mont-Blanc (1907)
L'Ascension du Mont Blanc, Camille Legrand (opérateur) © 1907 – Pathé frères

L’Ascension du Mont Blanc is the testimony of the ascent, at the beginning of the century, of the highest european summit. A documentary with extraordinary images, that follows an alpinists' crew, who are very different from today’s alpinists. If climbing is not an exploit anymore, the mountain always remains a danger.

Emak Bakia (Man Ray, 1926)

Emak Bakia is a surrealistic short film, a film-poem shot in Bidart where one finds Kiki de Montparnasse, the director's partner and model, Pablo Picasso’s sculptures and all the extravagant and quirky dada movement.

Ballet Mécanique (Dudley Murphy and Fernand Léger, 1924)
© ADAGP, Paris 2018

First film without a real script, Ballet Mécanique is the result of the composition Mechanisms from the composer George Antheil, who trusted the operator Dudley Murphy and the painter Fernand Léger with the direction. The result is an experimental post-cubic dadaist film considered as one of the masterpieces of the experimental cinema. A pure visual experience.
