A director of a dozen films since her first short film 15 Août selected in Cannes in 1986, Nicole Garcia began as an actress in the late 1960s under the direction of Étienne Perrier in Des garçons et des filles. She will then perform for many European talents like Bertrand Tavernier, Bertrand Blier, Gillo Pontecorvo, Alain Resnais, Claude Lellouch, Élie Chouraqui, Pierre Schoendoerffer, Giovanna Gagliardo, Roberto Faenza, Francesca Comencini or Claire Simon. César for best actress in a supporting role in 1980 for Le Cavaleur by Philippe de Broca, she will be nominated three more times as an actress and about ten times for her own films (multi selected in festivals, such as Cannes for The opponent, L’adversaire, Selon Charlie and Mal de pierres).

President of the jury in 2013, Nicole Garcia awarded the famous Crystal Arrow to Ida the film by Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski.
