About us

Les Arcs Film Festival : a committed festival

The Festival team shares core values

Differences are a source of cultural wealth and cinema is the right tool to show and celebrate them.

Cinema is like a showcase of our societies, that allows us to witness and believe - therefore it has a very political component that we enjoy questioning.

Cinema is also an industry, that we consider, at our festival, in its entirety and that is facing many societal issues we also enjoy taking on.

Les Arcs Film Festival is a committed and activist festival

A European cause activist, around which it was created.

The Festival is also committed to many societal issues, such as the environment and gender equality - and their resonance in the cinema industry.

A Festival working for Europe

Here, at Les Arcs Film Festival, we believe that European cinema is the perfect reflection of our continent' structure. Each film shows a piece of the mosaic we make up together: landscapes, History, cultures, lifestyles... They sometimes show our differences, but also what brings us together and what makes us alike. In that sense, cinema is a fantastic communication tool between peoples - and allows for a promotion of the European venture, inevitably political.

Our festival wants to be a privileged time to promote European cinema, one of the main manifestations of this "concrete and cultural Europe" that often lacks in visibility with the larger audience.

The festival aims to promote works that represent this creative Europe, "united in diversity", with multiple identities that all together make the European Union, around which writers and directors gather for a week.

It also highlights the protective and promotion role of the European Union has on its cinematic projects thanks to tools such as the "Creative Europe" program.

The Festival particularly supports independent European cinema, in terms of production and distribution.

A Festival that brings societal issues and cinema together

Les Arcs Film Festival team believes that cinema has to contribute to the reflection processes, and to help with current societal issues.

Thus, the Festival has created discussion spaces to raise awareness - through its Lab Femmes de Cinéma - created in 2017 and the Cinema Green Lab, created in 2019 - as a firt step towards concrete actions in favor of gender equality and eco-responsability of creative industries.

Les Arcs is also committed to environmental issues

Les Arcs Film Festival launched its Cinema Green Lab in 2019 and thus positioned itself as a committed festival on the environemental issue. Eco-responsability has been highlighted during the 2019 edition of the festival, in its program and the professional events. Many awareness actions were created and directed towards the younger audience, and a Cinema and environmental commitment Prize has been awarded for the first time to the Au nom de la terre team.

While gathering numerous actors from the European cinema industry (festivals, producers, directors, actors and actresses, distributors, exhibitors), the Festival participates in creating european movements on the gender equality and ecology issues, as demonstrated by the creation of a Green Charter for cinema Festivals in Les Arcs in 2019, then reworked in Rotterdam collectively.

In this spirit, we will keep working on our Lab Femmes de Cinéma and Cinema Green Lab over the next editions of the Festival.
