Femme de Cinéma
The festival, in partnership with Sisley, wanted to honour a woman particularly emblematic for the European cinema: a director, a producer or an actress.
The award "Femme de cinéma Sisley/Les Arcs" is an award committed to the promotion of women who are making today’s European cinema. Its purpose is to increase the media, the professionals and the audience's awareness to the discriminations against women in the cinema industry.
This year, the award will be given to Małgorzata Szumowska in the presence of Philippe d' Ornano, Sisley's chairman and will be followed by the screening of the winner's film, Body.
Małgorzata Szumowska belongs to the most prominent Polish filmmakers. In 2000 and 2004, she directed Happy Man and Stranger, which were nominated for the European Film Awards and settle down her fame as a director. Then, 33 Scenes From Life won the Silver Leopard at Locarno Film Festival and In the Name Of won the Teddy Award at the Berlinale. In 2015, her film Body, received the Silver Bear for the Best Director at the 65th Berlinale.
